EgyptAir Deploys IATA NDC 24.4 in Production, Moving Ahead of Most MEA Airlines on Standards Adoption

While much of the airline industry continues operating on older versions of IATA’s New Distribution Capability, EgyptAir has taken a notable step forward. The airline has gone live with IATA’s NDC 24.4 standard in its production environment through technology provider TPConnects, becoming the first airline in the Middle East and Africa region to deploy the latest standard in live commercial operations.

The deployment expands EgyptAir’s existing retailing platform, already powered by TPConnects’ Astra platform, which supports the airline’s NDC Portal, NDC API, and broader EgyptAir Retailing System. According to TPConnects, travel sellers connecting to EgyptAir will now benefit from enhanced order management, more granular service-level pricing, and improved error handling made available through the latest release.

“We are proud to deploy IATA NDC 24.4 in production, demonstrating our commitment to delivering an advanced booking and servicing experience,” said Amr Adawy, EgyptAir’s Vice President Commercial. Kristiaan van Dijken, TPConnects’ Vice President of Account Management for Airlines, described the deployment as evidence of EgyptAir’s commitment to modern airline retailing.

The significance extends beyond simply implementing another version of NDC. Although IATA has already published version 24.4 of the specification, adoption across the industry has remained considerably slower than the standard’s release cycle. Industry tracking earlier this year indicated that version 21.3 remained the newest production implementation across most airlines, with many carriers still operating on much older releases. IATA’s own ARM index registry confirms EgyptAir’s NDC 24.4 capabilities validated across Shop, Order, and Pay categories, well ahead of most regional peers, including Turkish Airlines, which remains certified at the earlier 24.1 version.

The deployment builds on an existing partnership between EgyptAir and TPConnects. In September 2025, the two companies expanded EgyptAir’s distribution by making the airline’s NDC content available through TPConnects’ Iris travel aggregation platform, giving agencies access to EgyptAir alongside traditional EDIFACT connectivity and other NDC-enabled airlines. The move to NDC 24.4 represents a further step in EgyptAir’s retail modernization, strengthening both its direct retailing capabilities and its reach through connected travel sellers.
