Travelstart has told partners that its Nigerian operation ceased local activity as of 31 July 2026. In a partner email, the company said the closure was part of a long-term strategy at its parent, TravelLab Group, describing it specifically as a TravelLab Africa Group decision, and thanked partners for their trust over the years of operating in the market.
Travelstart Nigeria has been one of the longer-running online travel agencies in the market, launching in 2012 as the company’s fifth African country entry and later absorbing Jumia Travel’s booking operations across the continent under a 2019 distribution agreement.
TDN has not independently confirmed the scope or mechanics of the closure beyond the partner email. Two secondary signals are consistent with a wind-down of the local entity rather than confirming one outright: cached pricing data from the Nigerian site shows booking activity as recently as mid-2026, and the country domain now redirects to Travelstart’s main global site rather than resolving as a standalone platform. Neither point is conclusive on its own, and TDN treats them as circumstantial rather than verified.
It remains unclear whether this is a full exit from the Nigerian market or a consolidation of customer service and fulfilment into another Travelstart hub, a pattern the company has followed before when restructuring country operations. No statement has been issued by Travelstart or TravelLab Group beyond the partner email, and there is no confirmation yet on what happens to open bookings, refunds in process, or local staff.
TDN has reached out to Travelstart for clarification and will update this piece as more information becomes available.
